Razer Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz
Razer Analog Optical
Razer is one of gaming's most recognisable brands, with a keyboard lineup that spans entry-level membrane through to flagship optical and mechanical models. The current range is built around two main lines: the BlackWidow series covers traditional mechanical switches across full-size, TKL, and 75% layouts, while the Huntsman series focuses on Razer's optical and analog optical switches for faster actuation. Both lines run on Razer's Chroma RGB ecosystem and tie into Synapse software for macro and lighting control. The range is broader than most competitors — Razer also produces low-profile options via the DeathStalker line, the Joro for ultra-thin laptop-style typing, and the Ornata for buyers who want RGB without mechanical pricing. If you want hot-swap, the BlackWidow V4 75% and Pro 75% are the standout options in the current lineup.

Razer Mecha-Membrane
Razer keyboard models that are no longer in regular production, including limited editions and older releases that may still be available via resale marketplaces.
Razer produces their own switch lineup across three main types. Mechanical switches come in Green (clicky), Orange (tactile), and Yellow (linear) variants, with Gen-3 versions in current models. Optical switches use light-based actuation for faster response and are found across the Huntsman range, including analog optical variants that register variable input depth. Budget and membrane models use Razer's Mecha-Membrane design, which combines a membrane base with a mechanical-style keycap feel.
Green switches are clicky and tactile — the loudest of the three, with an audible click and physical bump on actuation. Orange switches are tactile but silent, giving feedback without the noise. Yellow switches are linear and silent, with no bump or click, making them the fastest and quietest option and the preferred choice for competitive gaming. All three are available in Gen-3 variants in current BlackWidow models.
Only select models are. The BlackWidow V4 75%, BlackWidow V4 75% Pro, BlackWidow V4 Tenkeyless HyperSpeed, and BlackWidow V4 75% Phantom editions all support hot-swap. Most full-size BlackWidow and Huntsman models are not hot-swappable. If hot-swap is a priority, the BlackWidow V4 75% line is the clearest option in Razer's current catalogue.
The core difference is switch technology. BlackWidow keyboards use traditional mechanical switches — Green, Orange, or Yellow — with physical contact actuation. Huntsman keyboards use optical switches, where actuation is triggered by a light beam rather than physical contact, resulting in faster response times and longer switch lifespan. The Huntsman V3 Pro line adds analog optical switches, which can detect how far a key is pressed and enable dual-function inputs useful in certain games.
Yes, Razer keyboards work with Mac as standard plug-and-play devices. Razer Synapse, the software used for lighting profiles and macro configuration, is available for Mac. Some advanced features may be more limited on Mac than Windows, but core functionality including RGB lighting and key remapping is supported.
Razer Synapse is Razer's peripheral configuration software, used to set up RGB lighting profiles, program macros, configure hypershift layers, and manage firmware updates across Razer devices. It also enables cross-device lighting synchronisation through Chroma Connect, which extends Razer's RGB ecosystem to supported third-party hardware and PC components. Synapse is available for Windows and Mac and is free to download from Razer's website.
