Features
The new Planck mechanical keyboard builds on its reputation with enhanced features for a more powerful and customizable experience. Known for its unique ortholinear 40% layout, it’s designed to minimize finger travel, with all keys within two units of the home row. This version introduces the “raise” and “lower” space bar keys, allowing quick access to additional layers for extended functionality.
Constructed from CNC anodized aluminum, the Planck’s case is available in six colors, including bold new red and yellow options. The updated design integrates the plate into the case for a streamlined appearance, and the case itself is milled from a solid piece of aluminum, creating robust 3.1-millimeter-thick walls. A conveniently placed hole near the USB port provides quick access to the reset button on the PCB, while rubber feet ensure stability on your desk.
This new Planck features Kaihua hot-swappable switch sockets, which eliminate the need for soldering when changing switches. Its fully programmable matte black PCB, with an ARM/STM32 processor, offers flexibility for custom layouts. The PCB supports Cherry MX and Matias/ALPS switch footprints. All components are pre-soldered for easy setup, though Matias switches require soldering due to their design.
In addition to tactile feedback, the Planck’s PCB includes a speaker powered by the MCU. Default firmware triggers various sounds, such as startup beeps, DFU mode notifications, and audio cues for layout changes. These sounds can be disabled through firmware customization if desired.
Included in the kit is everything you need to assemble the keyboard: a steel plate, an anodized aluminum case, a USB-A to USB-C cable, PCB-mounted stabilizers, screws, spacers, rubber bumpons, and a socket wrench tool. Note that keycaps and switches are sold separately, providing users with freedom to choose their preferred options.
Designed by Jack Humbert of OLKB and produced by Drop, the Planck delivers a versatile and compact solution for those looking for customization and efficient typing in a minimalist footprint.
